Job Description

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Information Technology, the Application Support Specialist &
Training Coordinator provides support to mission critical applications used by faculty, staff, students and
administration. The position develops training and support strategies, implementation and capacity review
plans, establishes and administers desktop and computer lab application standards, assures compliance with
software licensure requirements, conducts needs analysis and researches new software solutions.
The position is the primary campus support for Blackboard, Website, Media Site, ExamSoft, Respondus, Google
Analytics, Microsoft Office Suite, Everbridge Emergency Notification system, new employee orientations, and
back up to the Service Coordinator, and other desktop, client-server and web-based applications.
The Applications Support Specialist & Training Coordinator interacts on a daily basis with other members of the
Information Technology Department, as well as with faculty, students, staff and administration. Vendor
interaction is direct as the position is responsible for arranging third-party training, product demonstrations and
focus group activities.

Job Duties

Responds to user problems and questions regarding functionality, operations, input/output, and general
operating procedures for desktop, client-server and web-based applications.
 Coordinates new application implementation and updates to desktop, client-server and web-based
applications
 Provides/recommends innovative ideas, processes and/or procedures for enhancements, additions
and/or modifications to improve the existing systems.
 Produces and maintains a variety of reports and/or queries as required and/or requested.
 Produce and maintain management reports for Administration, Providers, Management and end users.
 Analyzes business and regulatory requirements and applies these requirements to applications when
appropriate.
 Reports system issues to vendors through appropriate vendor solution. Monitors and tests resolution of
those issues sent to vendors.
 Assesses training needs and coordinates appropriate direct or third-party training solutions and
develops a resource collection of support materials.
 Provides one-on-one end-user training for campus community.
 Assists co-workers in functional areas of expertise.
 Assists operations to notify campus community of system downtime.
 Performs other duties/projects as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 No supervisory responsibilities

Required Qualifications

A minimum of four years of experience installing, maintaining, and developing support strategies for a wide
spectrum of information systems, tools, and support services is required.
Professional certification and an earned college degree in a related field is preferred.
Requires strong organizational skills; established leadership skills, including coaching, consensus building; the
ability to coordinate multiple tasks concurrently; the ability to effectively manage resources to address
competing priorities; the ability to use advanced techniques in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation
software; and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and interact with people of all ages
and diverse backgrounds.
Extensive knowledge and experience in a higher education environment is preferred.
Hands-on Blackboard administration and support experience is a plus.
