Job Description

The Director for Student Diversity and Inclusion serves as a resource for the development of inclusive student educational opportunities and strategic recruitment initiatives at Touro University California (TUC). The individual must understand the mission of the university and have strong program coordination and presentation skills. The Director will need to manage multiple projects; develop and maintain persuasive working relationships across the university and provide innovative student programing in a dynamic environment.
The Director must be results oriented and organized with attention to detail. The Director is expected to have the ability to collaborate with academic programs to support student success by offering programs, services, individual assistance and resources designed to enhance the diverse development of students.
The Director collaborates with university administrators, faculty, staff and students to support students from diverse backgrounds and helps promote an institutional vision for diversity and inclusion. The Director is responsible for university-wide diversity and inclusive student development programming and initiatives for graduate and professional students. This includes assessing and prioritizing needs, setting goals and working towards accomplishing the goals. This positon will assist in creating evaluation metrics to assess and demonstrate program success and may support grant proposals related to diversity and inclusion.

This position serves as a resource and supports Admissions and recruitment and academic learning support activities. This position will work with the Student Government Association (SGA) Diversity and Inclusion Committee and other university groups.

The position coordinates, and/or performs work with confidential matters and is expected to maintain appropriate confidences and work in an environment with a high degree of trust and integrity. The Director must enjoy a fast paced, flexible environment with a focus on high quality individual and group interactions, verbal and written communications and presentations.

Job Duties

Recurring Tasks:
• Identify student academic support, development and inclusion needs and serve as an advocate for an inclusive learning environment for students
• Develop programs to increase awareness among TUC students about the wide range of diversities and provide opportunities for reflection and awareness development available to individuals.
• Help the Director of Admissions to assess and report on admissions data for trends in race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, marital status, disability, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, etc. of applicants, matriculated students and those applicants who decline admissions as well as for any barriers to admissions
• Function as a Student Affairs team member and participate collegially and cooperatively with key stakeholders across the university, including students, SGA, senior administrators, faculty, student affairs, employers and alumni in the community.
• Assess effectiveness of programs and services. Design evaluation tools and analyze evaluation results. Track appointment statistics, records and make referrals to other TUC resources as appropriate.

Periodic Tasks:
• Participate in the planning and implementation of university major events such as, but not limited to, new student orientation and commencement.
• Participate in university committee service.

This position supervises the following positions: possible student assistants and/or peer advisors.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Human Resources or related field.
• Must be able to articulate a vision for student diversity and inclusion
• Demonstrated experience in academic support and diversity and inclusion program development
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively as the situation demands; managing competing priorities in a professional and positive manner.
• Experience working with graduate and/or first professional degree students is desired

• Possess strong analytical abilities with an ability to be an ethical decision maker
• Be solutions oriented with strong conflict resolution skills
• Ability to create and maintain collaborative and productive work relationships
• Ability to implement successful practices in services and professional development.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• High level of conceptual and organizational skills; must be detail-oriented and accurate
• Ability to provide innovative services directly to graduate students
• Proficient in submitting data for institutional reports as well as be highly skilled and adept in using Excel and Microsoft Office Suite and other similar types of office software program(s).
• Demonstrated experience working independently on complex, ongoing projects with minimal supervision.
