Job Description

The job will require teaching entry level and higher level mathematics courses. The candidate will be asked to advise and mentor students, who may be interested in pure mathematics, in actuarial studies or engineering. Full time load is a minimum of four classes per semester. In addition, the position may require developing and administering curriculum modifications, aiding students in doing independent study projects, scholarly work, and evidence of research potential. Teaching assignments include classes at 2 campuses (LCW – Manhattan & LCM – Queens). There may also be a requirement to teach one or more overload classes.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Plan for instructional activities to include, lecture, class discussion, and projects. Provide academic student advisement and maintain regular office hours; participate in student recruitment activities related to programs that require mathematics. Aid students in doing independent study projects. Serve on college committees. Participate in ongoing professional development toward an understanding of advances and developments in mathematics and related subjects as well as the teaching profession. Contribute to the department’s curriculum development efforts.

Required Qualifications

• Masters Degree in Mathematics is required, doctorate, some research publications preferred
• Experience- in teaching Mathematics (at least 3 years at the College level).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required, both written and oral, as well as a high level of sophistication and maturity in social and professional settings.
• Strong analytical skills. Requires ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with frequent high levels of urgency or sensitivity.
• Must be able to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in a team environment.
Physical Demands

Computer Skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and various Internet Browsers
