Job Description

Touro University Nevada (TUN) seeks an energetic, talented, and goal driven professional for the Learning Specialist, OASIS position. This is a full-time permanent position reporting to the Director of OASIS. The Leaning Specialist will work collaboratively with the other members of the Division of Student Affairs, as well as the University faculty and academic programs to support the smooth and efficient operation in the Office of Academic Services and Institutional Support (OASIS). The Learning Specialist, OASIS position exists to provide services that maximize the success, retention, and graduation of COM and CHHS students.

Job Duties

1. Attend meetings and events as assigned by the Director
2. Teaching and developing Learning Strategies workshops
3. Providing students with strategies in how to efficiently study based on their own learning preferences, including how to improve or adapt their own strategies for different courses
4. Assisting faculty and staff in the COM and CHHS to identify students who need counseling or other referrals
5. Assist in providing accommodations for students with documented disabilities
6. Assist with Commencement, White Coat, and or other university ceremonies
7. Attending and participating as needed in division, department and University meetings and committees
8. Supporting the Director and Assistant Director of OASIS by providing support for students during their Clerkship, Fieldwork and/or Rotations
9. Uphold policies and procedures in the university catalog and program handbooks
10. Demonstrate the University’s core values of social justice, intellectual pursuit, and service to humanity through their work
11. The Learning Specialist will also provide exceptional service and be able to articulate the mission and values of Touro University Nevada
12. Experience with and enthusiasm in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
13. Must be able to work flexible hours if necessary, evenings and Sundays

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Biology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology or related field

• Experience teaching
• Experience working with graduate and/or professional students
• Experience with graduate level life sciences or health sciences background
• Experience with online teaching environment
• Experience with APA and editing academic papers

Preferred Qualifications

Skills & Abilities:

• Must have demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Power Point and Word
• Must possess conceptual, analytical, and organizational skills; must be detail-oriented
• Innovative and solution-oriented
• Ability to present material to high-achieving graduate students
• Knowledge of Active Learning Theories
• Must possess superior customer service skills and the ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.
• Must be able to learn and accurately apply and/or explain policies and procedures.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to create and maintain collaborative and productive relationships with various constituency groups
• Experience and enthusiasm in working with a diverse student, staff, and faculty population from a growing university setting.
• Familiarity with FERPA and applicable laws, rules and regulations regarding student records.

Physical Demands

• This position requires the individual to work in a variety of settings including office, classroom training environment and campus academic division/department offices
• This is a typical office environment with long periods of sitting working at a PC and occasionally required to stand, walk, bend and reach.
• Ability to lift and move up to 10 lbs.

Special Conditions for Eligibility

Only internal applicants will be considered from August 31st-September 7th. Both internal and external applicants will be considered beginning September 8th until the position is filled.
