Job Description

Under the direction of the Senior Associate Dean for Curriculum and Medical Education, the Director, Instructional Design works in conjunction with the Assistant Dean for Curriculum to ensure that the curriculum for sections achieve and/or exceed goals and expectations by coordinating and facilitating sections, managing, monitoring and enforcing deadlines, coordinating speakers, and serving as liaison for Section and Course Directors, faculty and the students.

Job Duties

1. Manages curriculum production
1.1 Accurately prepares, publishes and edits study guides, syllabus, learning objectives, schedules, course materials, quiz, exams and grades.
1.2 Serves on the College of Medicine Curriculum Committee

2. Ensures delivery and coordination of curriculum
2.1 Manages all facility logistical arrangements for lectures, labs and small groups
2.2 Ensures accurate scheduling of lectures within each course by confirming off campus speakers, securing off campus lecture payment requests, course materials, and quiz and exam questions.

3. Coordinates preparation and execution of quizzes and exams.
3.1 Develops quizzes and course exam questions by securing accurate quiz/test question from both on and off campus lecturers/faculty.
3.2 Accurately prepares exam questions in database
3.3 Assists in appropriately identifying questions by Faculty Member, Course, Content and Bloom’s Taxonomy.
3.4 Coordinates review with directors and lecturers for final approval of quiz and exams.
3.5 Ensures all quiz and exams are finalized, printed and deployed in a timely manner.

4. Ensures completion of various activities related to the student assessment process.
4.1 Assists Grading Services by evaluating test questions, compiling report information, posting grades, analyzing and delivering analysis to appropriate Section and Course Directors, and submitting grades to the Registrar’s Office.
4.2 Communicates with faculty members regarding test question statistics; Works with faculty to create targeted questions.
4.3 Performs statistical analysis of student performance and test item analysis as necessary.
4.4 Assists students with interpretation of test results and subsequent planning of study time.

5. Oversees support and direction to students
5.1 Monitors student performance, tracking grades, assessing information and alerting Course Directors to sub-standard grades; Contacts Student Affairs for remedial assistance and referring students for tutoring.
5.2 Serves on the College of Medicine Academic Success Committee.

6. Ensures effective delivery of the section’s curriculum.
6.1 Accurately monitors deadlines on curriculum projects.
6.2 Establishes time lines for course material submission, schedules, quiz and exam schedules and questions.
6.3 Assists in development of policy and procedure mechanisms for all course related activities; sends deadline reminders, following up with faculty on needed information, etc.
6.4 Assists with development and implementation of policy, procedures, and new effective ways of tracking curriculum progress; Oversees section and course information and student use of Blackboard and grading.

7. Serves as liaison and point of contact for students, Senior Associate Dean, Assistant Dean for Curriculum, Section Directors, Course Directors and faculty.
7.1 Ensures and troubleshoots questions and concerns, makes concise notes of the issues, shares information with appropriate curriculum personnel, and/or directs students to designated individuals.
7.2 Responsible for providing Section and Course Directors information, facilitating interactions/integration, and relaying and delivering messages both personally, electronically or through Blackboard.

8. Contributes to team effort by performing other duties as needed/assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education:
• Bachelor Degree in Education. Masters degree in Education Psychology preferred.

Experience:
• Three (3) years experience evaluating curriculum and testing material or combination of education and experience
• Experience working with/advising students in an educational setting.

Physical Demands

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
• This position requires the individual to work in a variety of settings including office, classroom training environment and campus academic division/department offices
• This is a typical office environment with long periods of sitting working at a PC and occasionally required to stand, walk, bend and reach.
• Ability to lift and move up to 10 lbs.

Special Conditions for Eligibility

Only internal applicants will be considered August 22nd through August 28th. Both internal and external applicants will be considered beginning August 29th until the position is filled.
