Job Description

Under the joint direction of the associate dean for enrollment management in the School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP) and the vice president of communications at New York Medical College (NYMC), the communications coordinator will assist in strategic communication/marketing planning for admissions initiatives and general marketing for SHSP. This position is responsible for coordinating a wide range of activities that support marketing priorities especially assisting in SHSP admissions marketing, social media, website updates, printed collateral, electronic communications, events and photography for SHSP and NYMC. This position supports NYMC’s core messaging and ensures its brand is effectively communicated in all print and digital media.

Job Duties

1.Coordinate projects with the Office of Public Relations staff and external vendors to develop marketing materials in a timely fashion.

2. Collaboratively develop a variety of materials for social media, the website, advertisements and printed collateral.

3. Manage SHSP’s social media presence; write and post SHSP website updates and track SHSP website statistics; manage and publicize events at the Dean’s office level to engage the NYMC community and spread awareness to the public

4. Play a key role in producing short videos; planning, writing, setting up lighting, shooting, recording audio, editing, mixing, and performing all related production activities using a variety of software.

5. Create promotional opportunities to build a sense of SHSP community, awareness, support, advocacy and pride among internal and external audiences; build relationships with representatives from other areas of SHSP and serve as a resource for SHSP departmental marketing needs.

6. Assist in research and data collection regarding target audiences in order to assist the Office of Public Relations to develop appropriate strategies; assist in evaluating the effectiveness of marketing and promotional efforts; assist the Office of Public Relations in communicating goals and messages to SHSP employees and partners.

7. Assist in the SHSP quarterly alumni electronic newsletter and occasional targeted email campaigns, assembling content, coordinating the mailing, and building landing pages and tracking results.

8. Represent SHSP at school fairs as needed; attend photo shoots, press checks as necessary and provide art direction.

9. Works closely with the Office of Public Relations to stay abreast of key message development and top priorities.

10. Stay current on industry standards and innovation through a commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of communications, content strategy, social media and issues that affect higher education; develop internal contacts and scan the environment to identify students, faculty, staff and alumni as potential subjects for stories and testimonials; coach them on presentations, key messages and talking points. Make strategic decisions about creatively presenting and prioritizing stories.

11. Serve, at all times, as a champion and advocate of SHSP through excellent communication skills.

12. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

(A) Education requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or a related field.

(B) Licenses or certifications:
Must have a valid driver’s license.

© Technical/computer skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Comfortable with cameras, video equipment. Comfortable working with social media sites

(D) Prior experience: Three years of experience successfully coordinating marketing and promotional campaigns and creative deliverables.

Physical Demands

Physical: Work is typically performed in a standard office environment; however, photography and video work may be performed both indoors and outdoors. Learned physical skill is required to perform keyboarding functions. Physical skill is required for photography and video recording on location, loading and unloading video and lighting equipment and driving between campuses. Work may require standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling.

Environmental:Work schedule is often unpredictable and necessitates operating under tight deadlines; occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Travel to local off campus meeting and events may be required.
