Job Description

The Associate Program Director is a member of the Touro University California faculty and more specifically, the College of Education and Health Sciences Joint Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies/Master of Public Health Program. In consultation with the Program Director the Associate Program Director oversees the didactic and clinical phase of curriculum design, development and implementation to ensure effectiveness of the overall educational experience. Primary responsibilities include management and coordination of the didactic and clinical phases of the Program, participation in overall curriculum development, teaching, advisement of students, and serving on any committees as deemed appropriate for the coordinated functioning of the Joint MSPAS/MPH program.

Job Duties

Recurring Tasks
• In conjunction with the Program Director, ensure the Program provides core knowledge, skills and attitudes requisite to the development of the competencies required for successful completion and safe practice at the time of entry into the profession
• Oversee and supervise curriculum coordination, implementation, scheduling and evaluation of the academic and clinical phase of the program
• Oversee and supervise the daily functions and activities of the program, including ongoing program evaluation methods and outcomes and faculty and student issues
• Assist with the development of short and long range strategic plans
• Mentoring, supporting and guiding faculty members less experienced in PA education to develop to their potential, encourage leadership, job satisfaction and retention.
• Identify and recommend participation in faculty development activities and faculty development retreats and seminars.
• Orient new faculty
• Serve as a liaison between AC, CC, principal faculty and adjunct faculty and Program Director
• Facilitate and ensure open communication, discussion and collaboration within the program and between PD, faculty, students and staff
• Assist with the teaching of appropriate courses
• Other duties as assigned
Periodic Tasks
• Represent the Program at meetings and functions of the College, the University and the community at large
• Participate in faculty directed activities to integrate the Program within the University.
o Attend faculty senate meetings
o Participate in other University committees as directed and needed
• Participate in scholarly and research activities to professional groups and journals.
• Participation in the identification and recruitment of suitable faculty and staff to be involved in the administrative operations of the program.
• Assist in recruitment of adjunct faculty
• Participate in the identification and recruitment of qualified applicants and their enrollment as students in the Program in collaboration with the Admissions Office and Program faculty.
• Participate in local, state, and national professional organizations to ensure program excellence and appropriateness of curriculum and instruction
Clinical Responsibilities
• Full-time PA faculty are encouraged to participate in clinical practice to maintain faculty clinical skills and to ensure quality of teaching. A one-day release time is available to full-time faculty who secure clinical practice one day per week. Faculty who practice one day/week are still responsible for the duties and responsibilities listed in their job descriptions. Refer to Clinical Practice Policies for details.

Required Qualifications

• Physician Assistant: Current NCCPA certification, a Master’s degree and eligibility for licensure in the state of California is required.
• A minimum of 5 years clinical experience as well as teaching in PA education.
• An interest in public health is highly desirable.
• Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and generic database is essential.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with University faculty, staff, and administration.
