Job Description

The Clinical Research Director works closely with the program directors and the Associate Chairman of the Physician Assistant department to assure that the BS/MS PA Program meets and exceeds the published “Standards and Guidelines for an Accredited Educational Program for the Physician Assistants” as developed by the ARC-PA. The Clinical Research Director also reviews Master’s papers that are publishable. He/she oversees the Master’s advisors to assure that they are following the guidelines set forth for the Master’s Project syllabus and the graduate PA curriculum.

Job Duties

The Clinical Research Director will be sufficiently available to fulfill the educational and administrative responsibilities outlined below:
Accreditation:
Maintain Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA) of accreditation by coordinating the efforts of the PA Program to meet and/or exceed the “Essentials.”

Maintain NY State Education Dept. (SED) registration of the PA Program by keeping the Program in compliance with the regulations of the Commissioner of Education.

Curriculum:
• Review academic curricular content for appropriateness to PA practice.
• Monitor evaluation of learning objectives for the PA graduate curriculum and instructors.
• Provide analytical material and other resources to the Curriculum Committee for appropriate changes in curriculum.
• Establish and maintain standards of academic performance and monitor levels of performance.
• Maintain adequate sequence for the monitoring of student progress assuring appropriate intervention and/or recognition of outstanding performance.

Staffing:

Budgeting:
• Seek out available grants and submit appropriate documentation to solicit outside funding for the PA Program.

Admissions/Recruitment:
• Guarantee that admitted applicants have all the necessary prerequisites, academic ability and motivation to achieve the goals of the curriculum.
• In cooperation with the “recruiter” for the SHS, the Program Director will help to coordinate the appropriate recruitment strategies for assuring a qualified applicant pool.

Graduates:
• Provide documentation requested by alumni and/or potential employers of alumni as needed.
• Program Director will cooperate with the editor of the student/alumni newsletter by providing articles of interest to PA alumni.
• Maintain and update the alumni database in cooperation with the Director of Alumni Affairs.

Strategic Issues:
Formulate and implement long range plans utilizing information obtained through internal review with consideration of external environmental factors.

Required Qualifications

Education, Preparation, and Training
• Valid license to practice as a healthcare professional (if applicable)
• A Master’s degree is required; Ph.D. preferred

Skills
Requires ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with frequent high levels of urgency or sensitivity
Must be able to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in a team environment.
Good interpersonal skills are required, both written and oral

Computer Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
