Job Description

The Director of Physical Diagnosis will be directly responsible for introducing, reinforcing, assessing and remediating core clinical skills to medical students across all four years with a focus on physical diagnosis skills. This Director will work closely with the other members of the clinical skills team to deliver the curriculum and assist our students in meeting the graduation competencies. This is a part time position and requires a flexible schedule beyond that of the typical 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM routine.

Job Duties

Course Administration:
The Director of Physical Diagnosis will be directly responsible for administering the physical diagnosis sections of both the Foundations of Clinical Medicine 1 & 2 courses. This includes curriculum development & dissemination, faculty recruitment, retention & training, assessment and remediation, preparing and presenting course or student related information to administration or oversight committees or agencies.

The Director of Physical Diagnosis will be responsible for effectively teaching physical diagnosis, as well as other clinical skills, and other clinical skills while fostering a safe and productive learning environment. Specifically they will teach in the Foundations of Clinical Medicine 1 & 2 courses, all transition courses. Also, they will participate in and collaborate with other teaching activities across all four years of medical training that relate to physical diagnosis skills or other clinical skills.

Promote Interprofessional Education:
The Director of Physical Diagnosis will develop, participate and promote interprofessional teaching and development and assessment activities. This requires a collaborative spirit and a goal oriented approach to this role.

Service & Community Development:
The Director of Physical Diagnosis will represent the clinical skills team on committees within the NYMC, Touro and medical communities.

Required Qualifications

Education requirement:
Masters or Doctorate in Nursing

Licenses or certifications:
Active Nurse Practitioner Medical License

Technical/Computer skills:
Advanced technology and PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Outlook) and excel. Must be willing to learn and apply technology relevant to curriculum oversight and management.

Other Skills:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, Ability to work well under pressure, problem solve, set priorities and make critical decisions; Able to grasp and make use of abstract processes.

Prior experience:
2 years experience in leadership in medical education preferable.

Preferred Qualifications
Physical Demands

Must be able to lead instructional sessions for 4 hours, and walk between on campus frequently and often under time constraints.
